Rangeley Lakes area is located in the western part of the state, approximately 67 miles north of Bethel and near the New Hampshire state line. This is a four-season recreation area with over 40 lakes and ponds and 450 square miles of woodlands. The town of Rangeley, with its abundance of trees and ponds, has a rough, wilderness feel to it and has long been attracting anglers and both summer and winter sports enthusiasts. Spring marks the beginning of fishing season, and wildflowers dot the landscape, the loons return to the lakes and moose venture out to the open fields. Summer brings almost any type of outdoor fun imaginable, such as hiking and biking, swimming, boating, canoeing, sailing, picnicking, golf and more. There's 4th of July fireworks in the town of Rangeley, and Blueberry and Logging festivals, and arts and crafts shows nearby. Fall brings hunting season and some of the most spectacular fall foliage in the country. By November, snow comes to Rangeley and visitors flock to the town for downhill skiing at Saddleback Mountain and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Restaurants in Rangeley offer everything from fine Maine lobster to hamburgers and pizza, and lodging can be found in town, as well as in the woods, around the lake or along the golf course.

Rangeley Weather & Climate

Northwestern Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoys four distinct seasons typical of the New England climate. Mild to warm days with cool evenings, and occasional showers and thunderstorms can be expected in summer. It rarely becomes hot and humid enough to be considered uncomfortable. Fall is spectacular - crisp, cool days and cold nights, and often the most number of sunny days during the year. Winter begins around Thanksgiving, or sometimes even earlier in the month, and January and February are generally the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85-100 inches. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. True winter blizzards are rare in Maine, although some winter storms are accompanied by high winds. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms or thunderstorms, depending on the temperature.
