Temple
is a tiny town located in the secluded western mountains and lakes region of Maine near the New Hampshire border. An easy day trip to the city of Portland, this sparsely populated region has long been a favorite hideaway for those seeking the quiet secluded beauty of the mountains. Temple is near rural Rangeley Lake with its' long stretches of pine, beech, spruce and sky, and stylish inns and cozy bed & breakfasts. In summertime, Temple draws visitors to the mountains for boating, fishing, canoeing, hiking, camping and golf. In wintertime, this is ski country. Nearby Carrabassett Valley is home to Sugarloaf USA, a major ski resort with a challenging golf course. Snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are also popular sports in Temple. Other things to do in the area include exploring the country roads; day trips to Angel Falls, Small Falls, and old quarry rock piles, antique shops and Shaker Village. The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
