Livermore
is a small town in Androscoggin County, which is located in southeastern portion of the state, about 34 miles from the city of Portland. The region surrounding Livermore is dotted with small lakes and ponds and rivers that offer fishing and boating, swimming and camping opportunities. The Androscoggin River is a major tourist attraction and features boat launches and fishing, canals and dams, greenways and other public lands for hiking, picnicking, biking, cross-country skiing and other outdoor recreation. In the wintertime, ice fishing is also available on many of the area lakes and ponds. Seven golf courses are also located in Androscoggin County. Livermore is only about 25 miles from the town of Freeport, located on the southern coast of Maine. It's a historical little village, known as the "birthplace of Maine," that offers scenic ocean cruises, great seafood restaurants and shopping in everything from brand name, designer outlet stores to art galleries and specialty shops. Several state parks are also found in the Livermore area, including Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, Reid State Park, Popham Beach State Park and Bradbury Mountain State Park.

The Kennebec Valley region of southwestern Maine near the cities of Augusta and the sister cities of Lewiston and Auburn has four distinct seasons. Located approximately one hour from the seacoast and along the Kennebec River, the area is considered coastal, but it lacks the heavy fogs of the seashore towns. It is also far enough south that it is without the severe snowfalls and cold of the northern regions. The summer is comfortable, with perhaps a few days that reach as high as 90 degrees. Uncomfortably hot and humid weather is rare. Winters are moderately cold, with a mean temperature of 23 degrees for the three months of December, January and February. Readings of zero or lower are recorded on an average of 13 days per winter.
