Winthrop
is a beautiful New England town located just five miles west of Augusta and centrally located 1 ˝ hours from the ocean, the mountains and the city of Portland. Ten lakes and ponds can be found in the Winthrop area and I-95 makes it a convenient place to get away from it all – anytime of the year (although the population of the town does nearly double in the summertime.) Maranacook Lake in Winthrop has a recently renovated lakefront and is excellent for swimming, fishing and boating. The lake’s sandy beach is perfect for children who can also venture out quite a distance in the lake before it gets too deep. The community of Winthrop holds several special events throughout the year, such as the annual Winthrop Sidewalk Art Show. For over 17 years, area artists take place in this coveted show and sale that draws several thousand people each year. An annual Holiday Parade is held in early December and boasts parade entrants from all over the state. In addition to the parade, Santa visits the village and an arts and crafts fair is also held at various locations around town. Winthrop is an easy day trip to the ocean and Popham Beach and Reid State Park, or to the mountains and the Sunday River Area and the Sugarloaf ski area. For nightlife, Augusta and the Lewiston/Auburn area is just a twenty-minute drive away.

Winthrop Weather & Climate

|
The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
