Lake Cobbossee is located in the town of Manchester, which is south of Augusta and near the town of Winthrop. This beautiful nine-mile long lake first became a popular resort area around 1900 when many cottages and inns were built along its shores. Today, Lake Cobbossee is consistently rated as one of the best lakes in the state, and it’s home to several camps and year-round homes as well. It also has the distinction of being home to the only fresh water land-locked lighthouse in the state of Maine. With more than 4900 acres, the lake is well known for its great fishing, and is the site of many fishing tournaments throughout the year. Other activities on Lake Cobbossee include swimming, water skiing and canoeing, picnicking and sunbathing. There are miles of trails for hiking and biking, and in wintertime, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are popular sports. Lake Cobbossee Golf Course is located approximately two miles from the lake, and the towns of Boothbay Harbor and Camden are just over an hour away. With its peaceful setting and natural beauty and range of fun activities, Lake Cobbossee makes a great family vacation destination.

The south-central portion of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime temperatures in the 70s and low 80s, and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year.
