Seawall is an area of Mount Desert Island near Acadia National Park in Downeast Maine. It is approximately three miles from Southwest Harbor. It is mostly known for its' often visited picnic area and campground. The Seawall Picnic Area is one of nature's most dramatic shows. The natural seawall was created by waves during storms that flooded the low-lying area and created Seawall Pond. This area is also called "Storm Beach." The seawall is composed of rocks that vary from well-rounded cobblestone to angular granite rocks and outcroppings. Across from the entrance to the Seawall Picnic Area is the Seawall Campground. It is open from late May until late September and operates on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Park officials offer evening slide shows about the park in the campground amphitheater. Campsites are just a ten-minute walk from the ocean, and showers and a supply store are nearby. Acadia National Park is minutes away and is considered one of the most beautiful places on the North American continent. This crown jewel of Maine consists of ocean beaches, islands, mountains and a unique blend of wildlife and sea life. The town of Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island near Acadia offers a variety of restaurants, shopping, hotels, inns and other attractions.

Seawall Weather & Climate

"Downeast Maine," along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a variable climate that can change quickly at any time. This area, which includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island, has four distinct seasons where summer temperatures can range from 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Fog is quite common during the summer months, as well, but there is also plenty of sunshine. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter rain in any month, and ice storms are regular in the winter and early spring. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. Snow tends to melt quickly along the coast - more continuous snow can be found inland.
