Lebanon
is located in the southwest corner of the state near the New Hampshire border, on the banks of the Little River and near the Salmon Falls River. The town’s motto is “Gateway to Vacationland,” and it is, indeed, in the heart of everything, depending on which direction you travel. To the east are the fascinating and historical seaport villages of coastal Maine, such as Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Beach. To the west are the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, which provide wintertime skiing and unparalleled summertime activities. Or, a short drive north takes you to the city of Portland, Maine’s largest city and cultural center. Lebanon is one small town that seems to have it all. Outdoor activities abound in the area, including swimming, fishing, boating, sailing, golf, and unique activities like apple picking in the fall and whale watching and sightseeing coastal excursions. Attractions in the city of Portland include the Museum of Art, the Portland Head Light, which is Maine’s oldest lighthouse and the Old Port waterfront area with its’ many shops and restaurants. The town of Freeport, with its famous outlet stores is also a short drive from Lebanon, and another unique attraction is the Desert of Maine, a natural phenomenon that began as a fertile farmland a century ago and today is barren desert.

The southwestern tip of Maine, just across the New Hampshire state line, enjoys a four-season climate without the frigid temperatures of the northeastern part of the state. While the weather can change quickly in Maine (from sunny to stormy,) the seasons are pretty predictable. Fall is a favorite time of the year for many, with mild sunny days and crisp cool nights. With its proximity to the ocean, this part of Maine enjoys mild summers with cool ocean breezes and temperatures that rarely go over 80 degrees. Rain is possible anytime of the year. Visitors should come prepared for anything - temperatures in Maine have been known to swing 20 degrees in less than an hour. At times, the wind along the coast picks up, making it seem even cooler.
