Kennebunk is located in the southwestern corner of the state near the New Hampshire border and the Atlantic seacoast. “The Kennebunks,” as locals know it, is actually an area made up of the small villages of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise, Goose Rocks Beach, and Arundel. The town of Kennebunk was a shipbuilding center in the early part of the 19th century, and with its’ white clapboard homes with shutters, it looks quintessential New England. Kennebunk has a vital and active downtown district, where shops and restaurants and buildings with great historic interest line Main Street. The activity continues across the river in “Lower Village” where more boutiques, art galleries and restaurants are housed in renovated historic buildings. For outdoor activities there are nearby beaches and swimming, hiking, biking, deep-sea fishing and whale watching excursions. Be sure to visit the fascinating Brick Store Museum while in Kennebunk, which encompasses four commercial buildings dating from 1810 – 1860. Nearby Kennebunkport’s Dock Square offers more fun, and Cape Porpoise is an authentic working fishing village where you can walk the pier and enjoy the tranquil scenery, including the lighthouse on Goat Island. And, Goose Rocks is a quiet little village with a long stretch of sandy beach just east of Kennebunk.

The southwestern coast of Maine, near %u201CThe Kennebunks%u201D and the New Hampshire border, has a four season climate that is highly changeable, that is, it can go from sunny to stormy rather quickly. Generally, summers are a few degrees warmer than further up the coast, near Acadia National Park, however summer temperatures still seldom go above 80 degrees F. Thunderstorms are possible and fog is common along the coast in June, July and August. . The average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. In September, clear, sunny days and cool nights bring on the spectacular colors of fall. Temperatures continue to cool down through October and November, with wintry weather arriving around Thanksgiving time. Winters are cold in Maine, but not unbearable, and the generally snow melts quickly in areas right along the coast.
