Biddeford is a city of 21,000, located between the towns of Kennebunk and Old Orchard Beach, in the southwestern coastal region along the I-95 corridor. It is comprised of the smaller distinct villages of Biddeford Pool, Hills Beach and Fortune Rocks. Biddeford and its’ sister city, Saco are called “The scenic twin cities of Southern Maine.” This unique area is one of the most scenic in Maine with abundant outdoor recreation opportunities including swimming and other beach activities, boating and fishing, hiking and biking, sea kayaking, ocean sightseeing cruises, golf and nearby amusement parks. Fortunes Rocks Beach in Biddeford is a lovely beach just over two miles long, popular for swimming and with birdwatching nearby. Biddeford’s downtown area is filled with historic buildings and churches, and just a few miles east of the City Center lies ten miles of magnificent coastline with sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. To the west are rolling hills and horse farms, creating a peaceful, rural landscape. Just three miles northeast of Biddeford is Old Orchard Beach, home to a popular seaside amusement park that resembles Coney Island. Here, the pier is lined with shops, restaurants, midway games, rides and a video arcade. In the summertime, visitors enjoy fireworks on Old Orchard Beach next to the pier. Other area attractions include the Biddeford Pool & Wood Island Lighthouse and the Kennebunkport Dock Square.

The southwestern coast of Maine, near %u201CThe Kennebunks%u201D and the New Hampshire border, has a four season climate that is highly changeable, that is, it can go from sunny to stormy rather quickly. Generally, summers are a few degrees warmer than further up the coast, near Acadia National Park, however summer temperatures still seldom go above 80 degrees F. Thunderstorms are possible and fog is common along the coast in June, July and August. . The average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches. In September, clear, sunny days and cool nights bring on the spectacular colors of fall. Temperatures continue to cool down through October and November, with wintry weather arriving around Thanksgiving time. Winters are cold in Maine, but not unbearable, and the generally snow melts quickly in areas right along the coast.
