Kennebunkport is located in the southwestern part of the state near the New Hampshire state line. “The Kennebunks,” is comprised of the picturesque seaside villages of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise, Goose Rocks Beach and Arundel. Dock Square is the center of town in Kennebunkport, and if you love shopping, here is where you will want to spend the better part of a day exploring the boutiques and galleries that encircle the square and spill out into side streets and alleys. It has been described as “one of the liveliest spots on the New England coast!” The Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport displays streetcars built from 1872 to 1972, and you can take a trolley ride through the Maine countryside aboard one of their restored open streetcars! Other activities include swimming and other beach activities at Kennebunk Beach, whale watching excursions, hiking and deep-sea fishing. Kennenbunkport has two waterfronts; downtown Kennebunkport and about three miles east is Cape Porpoise. Still an active, working fishing village, Cape Porpoise was first discovered and named by Captain John Smith in the 1600s. Here, you will feel the real magic of the sea as you walk the pier and view the lighthouse on Goat Island, the fishing fleet and lobstermen unloading their catch for the day. Visitors enjoy “the Kennebunks” for its traditional flavor of “old Maine.”
