Wells
is a family-oriented seaside community that has 7 miles of shoreline, along with nature preserves, where you can explore tide pools, salt marshes, sea birds and waterfowl. This beautiful New England town is located on Maine's southern coast between the quaint towns of Qgunquit and Kennebunkport. Drakes Island Beach in Wells has a long sandy beach and is usually not as crowded as some of the other nearby beaches. It's also within walking distance of a wildlife bird sanctuary. Crescent Beach is about a half mile south of Wells Beach, and has lots of tide pools. Bring your binoculars to watch the seals on Bucklin Rock. There are extensive trails for hiking in the Wells Reserve that loop around meadows, orchards, salt marshes and seashore. Wells also has antique shops, camping, plentiful lodging and bed & breakfasts and wonderful restaurants. Relax and enjoy beautiful ocean views while you dine on lobster rolls, soft-shell crab and chowder. One restaurant even serves lobster pancakes! Another interesting place to visit in Wells is the Wells Auto Museum, which has 80 vintage cars, antique coin games and a restored Model T that you can ride in.

The southwestern tip of Maine, just across the New Hampshire state line, enjoys a four-season climate without the frigid temperatures of the northeastern part of the state. While the weather can change quickly in Maine (from sunny to stormy,) the seasons are pretty predictable. Fall is a favorite time of the year for many, with mild sunny days and crisp cool nights. With its proximity to the ocean, this part of Maine enjoys mild summers with cool ocean breezes and temperatures that rarely go over 80 degrees. Rain is possible anytime of the year. Visitors should come prepared for anything - temperatures in Maine have been known to swing 20 degrees in less than an hour. At times, the wind along the coast picks up, making it seem even cooler.
