Harpswell
is a fishing village along Maine’s Casco Bay, approximately 40 minutes from Portland. It is a unique town made up of a ten-mile peninsula that reaches into the Bay of Brunswick, three islands, Sebascodegan (or the Great Island,) Orr’s and Bailey, all of which are connected by bridges, and also 47 other smaller islands. Some of the islands are known simply for their solitary beauty, while others feature historic sites and lovely protected beaches and seabird colonies. With over 200 miles of breathtaking shoreline, Harpswell attracts visitors who love fishing, boating, sailing, sea kayaking, swimming and hiking and biking. There are lots of fine restaurants in the Harpswell area, some featuring fresh lobster and clams straight from the waters of the Bay. Visitors will find bed and breakfasts and inns; some in beautifully restored historic homes. Summer is, of course, a popular time to visit Harpswell, but also consider a fall vacation when the changing colors of the trees and foliage create a special treat. Harpswell has all that you’ll need for a wonderful vacation, and is also just a short drive to the shopping, museums, and historic sites of the nearby towns of Bath, Brunswick, Freeport and Portland.

The Southwest Coast of Maine near Casco Bay has four seasons with mild summer temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. Interior areas experience a greater range of temperatures in the summer than low-lying coastal areas. Expect cool sea breezes, especially at night. Widely scattered thunderstorms, along with higher humidity levels, can occur along with patchy fog along the coast. Maine%u2019s coastal climate is ranked second to the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation, and this moisture occurs in every from %u2013 from rain to ice and snow. Winters in Maine are quite cold with temperatures ranging from 11 to 31 degrees F. Average annual snowfall is 61 inches although snow melts more quickly along the coast than further inland.
