West Bath
is the gateway to Sagadahoc County as you travel north from Brunswick along Maine’s southern coast. With the New Meadows River on one side and the Casco Bay on the other, West Bath is coastal in character, with small private coves, salt marshes and fields. Located approximately 35 miles north of Portland between Brunswick and Bath, West Bath has a population of less than 2,000 year round residents, but that figure increases during the summer months. Originally, West Bath was a part of the town of Bath, but incorporated as its own city on Valentine’s Day, 1844. The village of West Bath retains its own small town charm, yet has access to the unique mix of shops, restaurants and services in neighboring downtown Bath. Both towns have 19th century brick buildings and a friendly, slow pace reminiscent of yesteryear. Nestled along the sparkling river, shipyards once lined the river’s edge and boats built in Bath sailed the seas around the world. Today, you can find all kinds of outdoor activities in West Bath, including boating and sailing, fishing, hiking, exploring the nearby islands and lighthouses and boat tours. The well-known Maine Maritime Museum is also located in Bath.

The Southwest Coast of Maine near Casco Bay has four seasons with mild summer temperatures in the 70s and low 80s. Interior areas experience a greater range of temperatures in the summer than low-lying coastal areas. Expect cool sea breezes, especially at night. Widely scattered thunderstorms, along with higher humidity levels, can occur along with patchy fog along the coast. Maine%u2019s coastal climate is ranked second to the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation, and this moisture occurs in every from %u2013 from rain to ice and snow. Winters in Maine are quite cold with temperatures ranging from 11 to 31 degrees F. Average annual snowfall is 61 inches although snow melts more quickly along the coast than further inland.
