North Waterford
is a beautiful New England town nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains in the Western Lakes Region of Maine, near the towns of Bethel and Bridgton. It sits on the edge of Keoka Lake, and is also near Bear Pond, Sebago Lake and Long Lake, which provides lots of outdoor activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing, hiking and camping. Kezar Lake, which has been called one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, is just a short drive from North Waterford. The town of North Waterford is home to a historic tavern, dating to 1790, that is surrounded by lovely, white clapboard houses, all of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The inn became the “Maine Hygenic Institute for Ladies” in 1847, and was turned into a hotel in the late 1880s; today it is a beautiful bed & breakfast inn. Some of the other unique attractions in the area include Mount Tire’m, which is a moderately easy hike/climb on the Daniel Boone Trail, the apple orchards of Plummer Hill Road and the Beech Hill Bison Ranch. North Waterford also supports an upscale art gallery, which features over 50 artists exhibiting works in oils, ceramics, jewelry, photography, sculpture, woodcarvings and more. If visiting during the month of August, don’t miss the Waterford World’s Fair, which is a good, old-fashioned country fair, with lots of fun for the whole family.

Western Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoy four distinct seasons that typifies the best of a New England climate. There%u2019s plenty of clear, sunny weather with cool nights in the summertime, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Extreme humidity in summertime is usually not a problem because temperatures are so mild. Fall is spectacular %u2013 crisp, mild days and cold nights, perfect for sightseeing. Winter begins in Maine around Thanksgiving, with January and February being the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85 inches and winter temperatures vary from the mid-30s to below zero. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. In the last fifteen years, the largest single snowstorm amount was 16 inches. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms until mid-April.
