Harrison
is a small town located in the foothills of the White Mountains and Lakes Region of western Maine. Over thirty lakes can be found in the area, with Long Lake being the closest one to the town of Harrison. This is a region with four seasons of great scenic beauty and all types of outdoor recreational sports to enjoy. Downhill skiing, ice-skating and ice fishing, and over 600 miles of cross-country ski trails are located in the nearby vicinity. Harrison is just ten minutes away from Shawnee Peak and thirty minutes to the Sunday River area ski resorts. Long Lake provides over 100 feet of sandy beach and a boat dock, while boat rentals are available at neighboring Naples Marina. Other outdoor sports around the lake include swimming, jet skiing and water skiing, sailing, hiking, biking and horseback riding, and a half dozen golf courses are available within a half-hour drive. Rides on board a paddlewheel boat are also available on Long Lake. Kezar Lake, approximately a half-hour drive from Harrison, has been called “one of the three most beautiful lakes in the world” by National Geographic Magazine. It also offers a full array of water sports activities, and being both a cold and warm water lake, is known for its’ trout, salmon and bass fishing. The town of Harrison is approximately 60 miles from the city of Freeport and 180 miles to Acadia National Park.

Western Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoy four distinct seasons that typifies the best of a New England climate. There%u2019s plenty of clear, sunny weather with cool nights in the summertime, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Extreme humidity in summertime is usually not a problem because temperatures are so mild. Fall is spectacular %u2013 crisp, mild days and cold nights, perfect for sightseeing. Winter begins in Maine around Thanksgiving, with January and February being the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85 inches and winter temperatures vary from the mid-30s to below zero. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. In the last fifteen years, the largest single snowstorm amount was 16 inches. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms until mid-April.
