Greenwood
is a small town, known mostly for being home to one of northwest Maine's major ski resorts. Mt. Abram, located just 10 minutes from Greenwood, offers terrain for beginners' as well as the seasoned skier. Five lifts and 42 trails are found on the mountain with incredible views of Mt. Washington and the Lakes Region. Mt. Abram is also the site of a tubing park (with the longest run in the state of Maine,) and a good cross-country loop that twists and winds its' way through the woods. A restaurant and bar with live entertainment, expert ski instruction and a daycare can also be found on Mt. Abram. The village of Greenwood is also just 15 minutes to the Sunday River ski slopes, and is ten miles to the colorful village of Bethel. In the summertime Greenwood offers visitors plenty of activities on unpolluted lakes and rivers, as well as in the White Mountain National Forest. Choose from mountain biking, hiking, swimming, canoeing, white water rafting and fishing. The Sunday River area is also known for its' antiquing and small town fairs and festivals. Plus, four distinct seasons mean anytime of the year is a great time to visit, with the colorful wildflower-strewn mountains of spring to the brilliant colors of fall and the snow capped mountains of winter.

The Sunday River area of Maine, near the towns of Bethel and Norway Lakes, is situated in the western part of the state north of Portland. This area enjoys four distinct seasons, with cold, snowy winters. January temperatures generally range from 11 to 31 degrees F., and single digits at night are common. Below zero temperatures are a possibility, but usually do not stick around for long. Temperatures start to warm up in March, but snow is still possible into early April. Generally, summers are mild with a greater range of temperatures the further inland you travel. Autumn often sees some of the best weather in Maine, with mild, sunny days and crisp cool nights - perfect for viewing the spectacular fall foliage. Rain is possible anytime of the year in Maine, but most often occurs in spring and summer. Thunderstorms are possible and average annual rainfall is western Maine is 51 inches.
