Friendship is a small town of approximately 1,200 located in Knox County, Maine. It is about a 40-minute drive from Rockland to the north and Boothbay Harbor to the south. The Friendship Sloop, which is a gaff-rigged sailboat designed for lobstering and fishing, takes its name from the town. For movie buffs, the majority of the film "Casper" was set in Friendship, although it was actually filmed in the nearby resort town of Rockport. Friendship is home to a fictional Gothic mansion called Whipstaff Manor, and the mansion and town also appear in the animated series "The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper."With its picturesque setting in Knox County, the town of Friendship offers lots to see and do. Some of the best hiking trails in the state are located in the area, including the Mount Battie Trail. Other recreational activities in the area include swimming, fishing, boating, biking, golf, whale watching and birding. Places of interest within a short drive of Friendship are the Pemaquid Lighthouse and Beach Park, Fort Pemaquid and the Salt Bay Preserve Heritage Trail, the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve, many antique shops, art galleries and some of the best seafood restaurants in the state.

Friendship Weather & Climate

Mid-coast Maine, east of Brunswick, has an oceanic climate with four seasons. This area has an elevation of approximately 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and while accumulating snow remains a possibility into March and early April, warmer days generally means relatively fast melts. . Ice storms can also occur in winter and early spring. Summers along the coast are cool, with temperatures in the 60 to 80 degrees range. Nights are usually chilly along the coast, year round. Rain can occur in any month of the year, with thunderstorms most common during the spring and summer months. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast, a very comfortable and colorful time of the year to visit Maine.
