Bremen
is a small town located southeast of Damariscotta along the Atlantic seacoast on the mid-coast of Maine, approximately 55 miles north of Portland. This is an area filled with historic attractions, beaches and outdoor activities, nature preserves and wildlife. The hiking trails in the Bremen area are some of the best in the state of Maine, and other recreational activities include swimming, fishing, boating, biking, golf, tennis, whale watching and bird watching. There are just tons of attractions in and around Bremen, some of them very unique to this region. One example are the Oyster Shell Heaps, which date back at least 2,400 years and are remnants of centuries of oyster feasts left by the Indians who summered along these shores. Other attractions include the Pemaquid Lighthouse and Beach Park, many 18th and 19th century meetinghouses, churches and other historic buildings, Fort Pemaquid, the Salt Bay Preserve Heritage Trail and the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve. In addition to all of this, Bremen and the Damariscotta region are home to some of the best seafood restaurants in the state, antique shops, art galleries and gift shops. Bremen is just a short drive to the villages of the Boothbay Harbor Region and about a two-hour drive to Acadia National Park.

Mid-coast Maine, east of Brunswick, has an oceanic climate with four seasons. This area has an elevation of approximately 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and while accumulating snow remains a possibility into March and early April, warmer days generally means relatively fast melts. . Ice storms can also occur in winter and early spring. Summers along the coast are cool, with temperatures in the 60 to 80 degrees range. Nights are usually chilly along the coast, year round. Rain can occur in any month of the year, with thunderstorms most common during the spring and summer months. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast, a very comfortable and colorful time of the year to visit Maine.
