Casco is a pretty little New England town located in the heart of the scenic Lakes Region of Maine, near the shores of Sebago Lake. Known for its’ splendid beauty and limitless outdoor recreation, the area surrounding Casco provides lots of opportunities for family fun. Casco is 36 square miles in size, with eight lakes and ponds making up nearly six square miles of the town. During the summer, Casco’s population of approximately 3,500 swells to nearly 15,000 when local camps and seasonal resorts are filled with visitors. Some of the region’s outdoor activities include swimming, boating and fishing, water skiing, cycling, hiking, camping and golf. Wintertime activities include alpine and cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling and ice-skating. The town of Casco offers two vacation resorts, several bed and breakfast facilities and several restaurants. The White Mountains and the Maine Seacoast are less than hour’s drive and nearby quaint villages are filled with antique shops, museums and artisan’s shops. Several colleges and technical schools are located within a forty-mile radius of Casco, including Bates College, Central Maine Technical College, University of New England and St. Joseph’s College. Casco is also home to one of Maine’s oldest festivals, called “Casco Days,” a tradition for over 70 years which includes a full weekend of activities and entertainment at Casco Day Park.

Western Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoy four distinct seasons that typifies the best of a New England climate. There%u2019s plenty of clear, sunny weather with cool nights in the summertime, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Extreme humidity in summertime is usually not a problem because temperatures are so mild. Fall is spectacular %u2013 crisp, mild days and cold nights, perfect for sightseeing. Winter begins in Maine around Thanksgiving, with January and February being the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85 inches and winter temperatures vary from the mid-30s to below zero. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. In the last fifteen years, the largest single snowstorm amount was 16 inches. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms until mid-April.
