Brownfield
is a tiny town located in Oxford County near the New Hampshire state line. With its wooded setting in the foothills of the White Mountains along the Saco River, many come to Brownfield for the exceptional trout and bass fishing found here. Brownfield sits in one of the most scenic spots of the state, and it makes a great place for a family vacation. It’s near the Conway State Forest, Echo Lake State Park, and Wentworth State Park. Just some of the things to do in the area include camping, hiking, biking, parasailing, and swimming in the Saco River which is noted for its cool, crystal clear water and sandy beaches. Canoeing is an especially popular sport in the Saco River and there are lots of opportunities for the advanced and beginners. Fall is spectacular in Maine’s western mountain region, and Brownfield makes a good base for sightseeing, antiqueing and visiting some of the other small villages of Oxford County. Other nearby points of interest include Storyland, Santa’s Village, and the Conway Scenic Railroad. And, in the wintertime, Brownfield is near Alpine and cross-country skiing.

Western Maine near the New Hampshire state line enjoy four distinct seasons that typifies the best of a New England climate. There%u2019s plenty of clear, sunny weather with cool nights in the summertime, with occasional showers and thunderstorms. Extreme humidity in summertime is usually not a problem because temperatures are so mild. Fall is spectacular %u2013 crisp, mild days and cold nights, perfect for sightseeing. Winter begins in Maine around Thanksgiving, with January and February being the coldest months. The average annual snowfall is around 85 inches and winter temperatures vary from the mid-30s to below zero. Most snowfall occurs in eight to ten measurable storms of 6 inches to a foot. In the last fifteen years, the largest single snowstorm amount was 16 inches. Temperatures begin to increase in March, along with an increase in humidity, which often results in snowstorms until mid-April.
