Yarmouth
is a vibrant town located right off Highway 1 on Casco Bay, about midway between Freeport and Portland. This town of approximately 8,500 residents is in the heart of one of Maine’s most popular recreation and fishing areas. Well known for its’ annual Clam Festival, which usually takes place in mid-July, Yarmouth is a picturesque town with a quaint village Main Street filled with shops and businesses. The harbor at Yarmouth provides easy access to the ocean, and swimming, boating, fishing, sailing, sightseeing boat trips and more. The town has a beautiful parkway that meanders along the picturesque Royal River, and its’ rich architecture dates back to the 1600s. For over 39 years, visitors have been coming to Yarmouth to enjoy the annual Festival, which offers live entertainment, a clam shucking contest, the biggest parade in the state, delicious seafood, a juried arts and crafts show and more. The city of Portland is just 11 miles from Yarmouth and has fine dining, museums, theater and its’ colorful Old Port area. The outlet shops of Freeport are in the other direction, making Yarmouth the perfect place to base a vacation on lovely Casco Bay.

The Portland area, along the southern seacoast, has very pleasant summers and falls, cold winters and changeable springs. Very few summer nights are too warm and humid for comfortable sleeping. Autumn has the greatest number of sunny days and the least cloudiness. Winters can often extend into normal springtime. Heavy seasonal snowfalls of over 100 inches occur about every 10 years. True blizzards are area in Maine. Although cold, temperatures in this part of Maine are generally not as frigid as further north in the state. Cold waves sometimes are accompanied by strong winds, but extremely cold temperatures are usually accompanied by light winds. Fog along the coast is sometimes a factor in the weather during the summer months of June, July and August.
