Saint Albans
is located in eastern Somerset County approximately 19 miles northeast of Skowhegan and just northeast of the town of Hartland. Considered a “rural and seasonal community,” Saint Albans is situated at the southern tip of Indian Pond. Seasonal housing that surrounds the pond accounts for one-third of the total housing in St. Albans. The town is 45 square miles in size and has a permanent population of about 1,800 residents. There are no major transportation corridors through the town, but, of course, this is exactly what many people like about it, being off the beaten track. This is largely a forested, secluded region that is perfect for many outdoor sports, such as swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The Sugarloaf Ski Area, Great Moose Lake and Sebasticook River are within an easy drive and Saint Albans is approximately 30 miles from the China Lakes Region and about one hour from the city of Portland. The city of Newport, which is considered the “Gateway to the Moosehead Region,” is less than ten miles away and offers a vibrant downtown area with interesting shops and restaurants.

The central mountains region of Maine, just north of Augusta, has four delightful seasons with spectacular foliage in the autumn months. The overall climate is moderate with summer daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s and cool nights. Winters are cold but usually not frigid. Spring and autumn are mild during the day, with crisp, cool nights. The really cold weather begins arriving around the end of November with January and February generally having the lowest temperatures. Below zero temperatures are possible, but not the norm. Accumulating snow is a possibility into March and early April, but the warmer days of spring generally means it melts fast. Rain can occur anytime of the year, and is usually spread pretty evenly throughout the season.
