Kittery Point
is located on the southwestern tip of the state near the Atlantic seacoast and right across from the New Hampshire state line. Kittery is probably most well known for their shopping. They are home to more than 120 factory outlet stores along a stretch of Highway 1 where you can find almost anything you need! But, if you drive just north of the outlets, and then east on Route 103, a stretch of winding road takes you to spectacular views of the ocean, and hiking and biking trails. For more outdoor fun, drive four miles north to “The Yorks,” which is known for their beaches. A must see in Kittery Point is the Fort McClary State Historical Site. This museum covers 27 acres and provides visitors with insight into Maine’s maritime background. It was also used in five wars, beginning with the American Revolution. Other points of interest in Kittery include Fort Foster, and the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum. The latter has exhibits of local maritime and cultural heritage and artifacts found at the 18th-century Andrews-Mitchell garrison. Kittery Point also has several wonderful historic waterfront inns where you can dine on fresh Maine lobster and other seafood while overlooking the water.

The southwestern tip of Maine, just across the New Hampshire state line, enjoys a four-season climate without the frigid temperatures of the northeastern part of the state. While the weather can change quickly in Maine (from sunny to stormy,) the seasons are pretty predictable. Fall is a favorite time of the year for many, with mild sunny days and crisp cool nights. With its proximity to the ocean, this part of Maine enjoys mild summers with cool ocean breezes and temperatures that rarely go over 80 degrees. Rain is possible anytime of the year. Visitors should come prepared for anything - temperatures in Maine have been known to swing 20 degrees in less than an hour. At times, the wind along the coast picks up, making it seem even cooler.
