Hancock
is a lovely coastal community located on Frenchman Bay, just off Highway 1 in Hancock County, just 25 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Quiet and peaceful, the Hancock area offers a diversity of things to see and do. In summer, nearby Acadia National Park offers endless opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing, and whale watching trips. Hancock also makes a good base from which to explore the many small towns and villages of the Mount Desert Island and Downeast Maine coastal area. Go antiquing, or in the fall, pick your own blueberries and take an autumn color sightseeing tour. Winter in the Hancock area is long, and brings its’ own special beauty, as well as activities such as ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. The town of Ellsworth is just east of Hancock, and has most all your shopping needs, plus the tourist town of Bar Harbor, located on Mount Desert Island, has a charming shopping district with art galleries, unique gift shops, restaurants and cafes. The peaceful town of Franklin is five minutes away, home to George’s Pond, a one mile-long lake known for its’ bass and trout fishing. Dining in the Hancock area is one of its’ biggest attractions, where you can eat fresh lobster and other seafood prepared fresh off the boat – and just to your liking.

Southeast Maine , along the Atlantic Seacoast, has a distinct four-season climate. This area, often referred to as %u201CDowneast Maine,%u201D includes the Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
