Sullivan
is located at the tip of the Schoodic Peninsula on Frenchman Bay in Downeast Maine. From Sullivan, one can look across the Bay and see Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (approximately 45 minutes by car.) Activities are abundant in the area and include biking, hiking, boating and fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boat excursions and whale watching. Winter is a special time on the peninsula and brings ice fishing, sledding, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. In Sullivan, you will be just minutes to the Schoodic Mountain Trails and the hiking trails through the old growth forests to the Bragdon Quarry. The quarry offers fishing and canoeing, and it tapers gently into the water, making it safe for children. If you enjoy shopping, there are many local art galleries, antique shops and arts and crafts shops in the area. Also, chamber music is presented at the Pierre Montieux School in Sullivan on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. From Sullivan, it’s an easy day trip to Campabello Island, the Blue Hill Peninsula, the Camden/Rockland area and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.

Visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of weather conditions in this part of Maine because the climate is highly changeable. Temperatures in summer can range as much as 45 degrees F to 85 degrees F. Spring and fall temperatures vary from 30 degrees F to 70 degrees F. You may also encounter fog or rain at any time. The Maine coastal climate is ranked second to only the Pacific Northwest in annual precipitation. This moisture occurs in every form at Acadia National Park. Ice storms are regular in winter and early spring. Average annual rainfall is 48 inches and average annual snowfall is 61 inches.
