Green Lake
is a six-mile long, recreational lake located in Hancock County, approximately six miles northwest of the town of Ellsworth, in the region generally known as “the gateway to Downeast Maine and the Acadia National Park. This beautiful little lake is mostly known as a fishing and hunting lake, but also offers swimming and sunning, boating and water skiing. Hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are also available in the vicinity right around the lake, and sea kayaking, canoeing, sailing, rock climbing and whale watching are available just a few miles away on the coast. The Downeast and Acadia region of Maine is filled with small towns and villages with arts and crafts and antique shops, historical spots, lighthouses and delicious Maine lobster, right off the boat. Ellsworth, one of the nearest towns to Green Lake, has all the necessary amenities and is a good base town from which to explore the area. Other nearby points of interest includes Graham Lake, Lamoine State Park and Frenchman Bay, Mount Desert Island and the tourist town of Bar Harbor.

Maine enjoys four distinct seasons. In the Penobscot Valley region, near the city of Bangor, there is plenty of clear, sunny weather in summer, with nights cool enough to provide a welcome relief from the warm days. Brisk, sunny days and cool nights in September prepare for what is the favorite season for many in Maine - the spectacular colors of fall. Temperatures continue to cool through October and November, with wintry weather returning around Thanksgiving. Cold weather settles in around the Penobscot Valley around Thanksgiving. January and February are generally the heart of winter. Below zero temperatures are possible, but infrequent and usually do not last for any long period of time. Temperatures begin to increase in March, with a corresponding increase in humidity. The Bangor area receives approximately 85 inches of snow a year, most of it occurring in eight to ten measurable storms per year.
