Wiscasset
was settled in 1663 on the banks of the Sheepscot River, and bills itself as “Maine’s prettiest village.” Located near the Kennebec River, Wiscasset is the county seat of Lincoln County and is located just south of Augusta. Wiscasset is certainly a historical town, with elegant sea captain’s homes that today house antiques and art galleries, old cemeteries, churches and public buildings. Just a few of the interesting places to visit in town are the Musical Wonder House, built in 1852, and formerly a sea captain’s home that today houses a collection of thousands of antique music boxes from around the world. Also, the Nickels-Sortwell House is a wonderful example of Federal architecture, and the 1807 Castle Tucker is known for its’ extravagant architecture. And, be sure to visit the nearby town of Bath’s Maine Maritime Museum. You will find hiking, biking, boating, fishing, birding and antiqueing in the area. And, Wiscasset is just a short drive to Boothbay Harbor and deep-sea fishing, whale watching excursions, sailing, swimming and more. Wiscasset is conveniently located, yet off the beaten path away from the crowds.

The Kennebec and Damariscotta River region, located along mid-coast Maine, has a moderate climate that is greatly influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. This area has an elevation of 70 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rolling farmlands, forest areas, numerous islands, peninsulas, bays and beaches. Winter temperatures generally range from 0 to 40 degrees F. and summer from 50 to 85 degrees F. Nights are usually chilly, even in the middle of summer. Average rainfall totals 40 inches, with snowfall totaling 75 inches. Ice storms can occur in winter and early spring, but ice and snow tends to melt quickly along the coast. Rain can occur in any month of the year, and thunderstorms are possible in the summertime. Crisp, sunny days and cool nights make fall one of the most pleasant times of the year along the mid-coast.
