Petit Manan Point
is part of the Schoodic Peninsula, 23 miles southeast of the town of Hancock and near Acadia National Forest. The unspoiled fishing villages of Winter Harbor, Prospect Harbor, and Corea surround Petit Manan Point where you can watch local fishermen at work, and pick your way over granite rocks to the pebbly beaches below. This is an area virtually untouched by tourism, although you will find galleries of local artists and craftspeople in Winter Harbor. Two miles east of Winter Harbor is a one way loop along the craggy coastline and towering pines that takes you around the tip of the peninsula with incredible views of Grandstone Neck and the Winter Harbor lighthouse. Fraser Point Day Use Area at the beginning of the loop is ideal for a picnic. You can hike up to Schoodic Head for more spectacular views of the coastline. Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge is a 2,166-acre refuge of fields, forest and shorefront on the tip of the peninsula east of Schoodic. There are two walking trails here, and it is well known for its birdwatching and wildlife viewing. Whale watching tours are also available in the area.
