Lubec
is located on the banks of the St. Croix River near the United States/Canada border. This former shipbuilding and sardine-packing town has the distinction of being the first town in the U.S. to see the sunrise. Its rural beauty shines and is a place much appreciated by those who love the great outdoors. Lubec is home to Quoddy Head State Park, the eastern most point in the U.S., which is marked by candy-striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, which was constructed in 1808. This park is where the Maine coast meets New Brunswick, and covers nearly 500 acres and features rocky cliffs that rise 80 feet above the ocean. The mystical path here takes you along two miles of cliffs with unbelievable views of Canada’s Grand Manan Island. Whales can often be spotted offshore. The park also has picnic areas and a boardwalk showcasing native plant life along a peat bog. You can also find sandy beaches in Lubec for swimming, boating, fishing, sailing and hiking. Lubec also makes a good base for day trips to Canada’s Campobello Island. There is not a lot of nightlife in Lubec, nor tourist traps and shopping, but it has natural beauty galore and is a tranquil spot to unwind.

Lubec Weather & Climate

|
The eastern seacoast of Maine near the Canadian border, which includes the towns of Lubec, Alexander and Jonesport has an extreme oceanic climate with cool temperatures, wind and fog. Fog is especially likely to form when warm, moist air meets the cold air here. The fog and wind help spread the boggy growth over the thin soil and rocky outcroppings of the area. Washington County is the first spot in the United States to see the sunrise every morning, and does not have the severe snowfalls or frigid cold of the northern regions. The coast does receive a lot of precipitation, however, in the form of rain, ice and snow. Summers along Maine%u2019s eastern seaboard are very mild, with chilly nights and daytime highs rarely going above 80 degrees F.
